Building a vanity to elevate my bedroom
Welcome or welcome back to my grownish series! I’ve been wanting a vanity desk for a while now so I can have a designated place to store my makeup and do my makeup! I absolutely hated doing my makeup in the bathroom and dealing with the clutter so this was an easy solution. 🤭💕
I decided to build the vanity myself just to prove to myself that I can do it. The best advice I’ve ever gotten was that “if no one was around, would I be able to accomplish it myself?” The answer was yes for this mini project. I really like the drawers and amount of space I get with this vanity. I will be replacing the vanity stool/chair that came with it though because it’s not my style.

Okay, let's talk about the ultimate glow-up for your bedroom – a dedicated vanity space! Like many of you, I used to struggle with doing my makeup in the bathroom, battling bad lighting and counter clutter. It felt like a daily battle, and I knew I needed a change. That's when I realized a DIY vanity desk was the perfect solution to reclaim my space and elevate my routine. Why go DIY? For me, it was all about customization and proving I could create something beautiful for my home. Plus, it's often a fantastic way to achieve a high-end look without breaking the bank, especially if you're aiming for a 'diy makeup vanity on a budget.' You get to choose every detail, from the size and style to the number of drawers and type of mirror, ensuring it perfectly fits your aesthetic and needs. This personal touch is what truly makes it feel like 'my' space, not just another piece of furniture. Before diving in, take some time to plan. Think about your available space – are you looking for 'vanity in bedroom ideas' that fits a small corner, or do you have room for a larger setup? Measure carefully! Consider if you want to build from scratch, which can be a rewarding challenge (believe me, building a vanity is not for the weak!), or if you'd rather repurpose an existing piece. 'Turning a desk into a vanity' is a brilliant hack for a quick and easy transformation. Look for inspiration from 'cute vanity ideas' to help you define your style. If you're building from the ground up, popular choices include using IKEA Kallax units with a countertop, or simple plywood constructions that you can paint or cover. For those with a current desk, adding a large mirror (especially one with LED lights!) and some drawer organizers can instantly turn it into a functional 'diy desk vanity.' Don't forget about storage – built-in drawers, cubbies, or even pretty acrylic organizers are key for keeping everything tidy. For 'small makeup studio ideas' or 'diy makeup vanity for small spaces,' consider wall-mounted shelves, floating desks, or even a sleek, narrow console table that doubles as a vanity. These solutions help maximize space without sacrificing style. Beyond the desk itself, think about what truly makes a vanity shine. Good lighting is non-negotiable! Many DIYers opt for LED strip lights around their mirror, or even a Hollywood-style bulb setup for that perfect glow. A power outlet nearby is also a huge plus for hair tools and charging devices – it's a detail you'll appreciate daily. And of course, the mirror! A large one can make your space feel bigger and brighter. The satisfaction of stepping back and seeing your own creation, a dedicated space for self-care, is truly unmatched. It's more than just a desk; it's a personal sanctuary where you can feel your best.
