THEY CALLED ME “MR. MCDONALDS”
People don’t just wake up experts at work. They put in that work. That hustle.
The day McDonalds by the community college hired me rings fresh in my memory.
I didn’t just get a job—I got a crash course in pressure, patience, and problem-solving. For some reason I get hired to be Mr. Fix It at all my jobs. The one you think is the manager but just a regular crew? Yea, that’s me.
So how about I was on table at McDonald’s when someone came through with a monster order:
4 Big Macs, 3 Quarter Pounders, 4 six-piece nuggets, and a 10-piece.
We were short-staffed. No grill person.
No backup.
Just me.
And we was out of Big Mac and Quarter buns 😣
My mind started moving fast:
• Drop the 4:1 patties first—so they’re fresh.
• Drop the nuggets next—that’s the last in the cabinet.
• Run to the back for bread.
• Toast the buns.
• Fix the nuggets while the bread toasted.
• Build the burgers as the meat came up.
I moved like a robot in a one-person kitchen. It was stressful, but when I pushed that order out—hot, fresh, and on time—I felt proud. Accomplished.
Like I passed a test.
But the worst part? This is how at least 2 of my shifts went a week. Hectic, heavy and understaffed. It’s like they were scheduling me by myself all the time. Or placing me on a heavy shift with new hires.
