God Controls the Heart

It’s easy to look at the world and feel despair, watching hearts seem to harden, much like the people described in Zechariah 7:11-12, who 'refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears.' They made their hearts like 'adamant stone.' Yet, even in those moments, we can lean into the truth of Proverbs 21, which clearly tells us that the 'king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.' This isn't just about earthly rulers; it’s a beautiful promise that God can soften hearts, change minds, and guide decisions according to His perfect will, even when it seems impossible. This perspective completely shifted how I approach my concerns. Instead of succumbing to worry or complaint, I'm reminded that our command is to pray for those in leadership. It's a testament to God's ultimate control, knowing that He holds the 'keys' of ultimate authority, just as Jesus does over life and death (Revelation 1:18). This means even when we don't see an immediate change, or when things feel chaotic, we can trust that He is working. And for those moments when my heart is heavy, finding quotes and verses that speak to God's unwavering control is a lifeline. It brings to mind Romans 8:28, a verse that has comforted me countless times: 'And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.' This isn't to say we won't face challenges, but it's a powerful assurance that God is orchestrating everything, even the difficult parts, for His greater plan. Ultimately, understanding that God sees everything and controls every heart helps me keep my own heart aligned with God. It empowers me to live with purpose, knowing I am chosen by God for a reason, and that His light can illuminate even the darkest paths.
