Pigmentation (Melanogenesis)
is the process by which melanocyte pigmentation cells in the skin layer produce melanin pigment (Melanin), which acts as a natural shield protecting the skin from UV radiation, including determining the color of the skin, hair, and eyes.
This process is divided into:
The pigmentation mechanism This process is triggered by an enzyme, Tyrosinase, that turns the amino acid tyrosine into a melanin pigment, and then melanin is packaged in a storage bag called a melanosome and passed on to epidermal cells to achieve skin color.
Melanocyte functional stimulants to increase pigmentation. Only if the body receives external and internal stimuli include:
UV radiation (UVA + UVB): Sunlight is the main trigger, pigment is produced incrementally to prevent skin burns (resulting in darker skin or blemishes, freckles and dark spots).
Hormones: Hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy or taking birth control pills, can trigger blemish.
Inflammation: Injuries or acne marks can trigger pigmentation, until post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) care and prevention.
Dark skin problems, blemishes and dark spots, caused by abnormal pigmentation, can be dealt with by:
Avoiding the sun: Use sunscreen with high SPF and PA on a daily basis.
Use Whitening Skin Care: Use skincare that contains tyrosinase enzyme functional inhibitors such as vitamin C, Niacinamide, or Arbutin to brighten skin tone.
