9 days old pups. 🥰🤎🖤
Welcoming a litter of tiny puppies into your home is one of the most heartwarming experiences a pet parent can have! I remember when our little ones arrived, it was a whirlwind of excitement and a steep learning curve. From fragile 1 day old puppies to boisterous 9 week old puppies, each stage brings its own joys and challenges. I wanted to share some of my personal insights and practical tips on how to take care of puppies during these crucial early weeks, especially focusing on their journey from birth up to about 9 weeks old. The first few days are incredibly delicate. When you have 9 day old puppies or even younger, their mom, like our Rottweiler mother nursing puppies, is truly a superhero. Her milk provides all the essential nutrients and antibodies they need. My top priority was ensuring the mother was comfortable, well-fed, and hydrated. She needed high-quality puppy food, often up to 3-4 times her usual amount, and constant fresh water. A quiet, warm space for her and her babies is paramount. I always kept a close eye on the pups to make sure they were all nursing regularly and gaining weight. Small digital scales were a lifesaver for daily weight checks in those first two weeks! If a puppy wasn't gaining, or seemed listless, that was a red flag for me to consult the vet immediately. As they transition from 1 day old puppies to being a few weeks old, things start to get interesting. Around two weeks, their eyes begin to open, and they start to explore their immediate surroundings. This is also the period where questions like "what to feed a 2 week old puppy without mom" might arise if the mother is struggling or absent. In such cases, a high-quality puppy milk replacer, fed with a special puppy bottle, is crucial. Never use cow's milk! I made sure to research and have some on hand, just in case. By the time they are 1 month old puppies, the little ones are much more active. They'll be attempting wobbly walks and engaging in their first playful interactions. This is when I started thinking about the very beginning of the weaning process. While the mother's milk is still vital, introducing a small amount of softened puppy kibble (mixed with water or puppy milk replacer to a gruel consistency) can begin. This prepares their digestive systems for solid foods. For a 1 month old Rottweiler puppy, their growth rate is quite fast, so good nutrition is key. As they approach 9 week old puppy care, the focus shifts significantly. They are much more independent now, fully weaned onto puppy food. This is the prime time for early socialization – introducing them to different sights, sounds, and gentle handling. Regular vet visits become important for their initial vaccinations and deworming. I also started very basic potty training, getting them used to going outside immediately after waking up and after meals. "How to take care of a 9 week old puppy" often involves setting boundaries, encouraging good play behavior, and continuing their healthy development. It’s a busy but incredibly rewarding stage as you watch them transform from tiny, helpless newborns into confident, playful young dogs ready for their forever homes. Every day is an adventure, and seeing them thrive makes all the effort worthwhile!
