Would you want your child to live your exact life? 🔑
🌮 Happy Taco Tuesday!
Yesterday I shared my thoughts about the kind of example we want to set for our kids. That conversation stuck with me all day, and it led me to another question I've been asking myself...
If my kids followed my exact path, would I be happy for them?
As hard as it is to admit... right now, my answer is no.
That hurts to say because I want my kids to look up to me. I want them to be proud of the man and father I am.
But I don't want them looking up to the chain around my neck.
I'm grateful for my job because it provides for my family. But it also takes time away from the very people I'm working so hard for. I don't want my kids growing up believing that 12-14 hour days, missing moments with family, and living paycheck to paycheck is the only way to build a life.
I want them to know there's something out there for each of them. Whatever they're passionate about, I want them to chase it with everything they've got. I want them to build a life they enjoy, not just one they survive.
More than anything, I want them to have the freedom to be present one day when they have families of their own. I don't want them missing ball games, dance recitals, family dinners, or bedtime stories because a schedule owns their time.
That's why, after my workday ends and the kids are asleep, I keep building. Not because I'm running away from my job... but because I'm running toward a future where my kids see there are more options than the one I had.
Yesterday's focus was about the example we want to set.
Today, I realized something...
The greatest example I can give my kids isn't telling them to dream bigger. It's showing them that it's never too late to start building a different future.
🔑 Because if I can break the chain... maybe they'll never have to wear one.
