How to know when it’s time to pivot your career
For a long time, I stayed in roles that felt okay on paper, but quietly drained me every day.
They weren’t bad jobs. They just weren’t me anymore.
I kept telling myself I should be grateful. That discomfort was just “part of adulting.” That I needed to tough it out because pivoting meant failure. But deep down, I was bored, tired, and craving meaning.
It wasn’t until I found myself dreading Mondays and feeling nothing after finishing big tasks that I knew: I wasn’t just tired. I was disconnected.
My work no longer aligned with what I cared about and that misalignment was costing me my energy, my creativity, and honestly, my confidence.
Around that time, I started managing social content for Mindprint, a project that explores how people’s minds work, and how understanding your unique strengths can change the way you approach careers.
Funny enough, the more I posted about self-awareness and career fit… the more I realized I was speaking to myself.
I couldn’t keep telling people to find aligned work when I was feeling completely unaligned.
So I started small.
No big career leap. No dramatic announcement. Just quiet curiosity.
I explored my interests in public health and tech. I took online courses, joined niche forums, talked to people way ahead of me. I started sketching out ideas, learning to build, and researching real-world health issues I felt connected to.
That slow pivot led me to something I never expected: building in public health AI.
Today, I work on ideas that merge tech with empathy, tools that help underserved communities get better access to care. It’s not easy work. But it’s right for me.
