My honest thoughts on CYKLAR

It’s funny how much hype can build around a brand, and then the reality can sometimes just… fall flat. Like I mentioned in my initial thoughts, I truly went into my CYKLAR sniffing session at Sephora with an open mind, even excitement! I'm a huge fan of discovering new scents, from designer to niche, and my collection includes everything from sweet gourmands to deep, earthy chypres. But with CYKLAR, I just couldn't connect. When I talked about them not feeling 'luxury,' I really meant it felt like something was missing from the overall experience. For me, a luxury fragrance isn't just about a pretty bottle – although the sleek design and those distinctive gold caps on the CYKLAR perfume bottles, with their various colored liquids, certainly look appealing. It's about the depth of the scent, how it evolves on the skin, and its staying power. With CYKLAR, I found the fragrances to be quite linear, without much of a journey from top to base notes. They were pleasant enough right out of the gate, but then they just… stayed there, without developing into anything more complex or intriguing. The biggest letdown for me was definitely the longevity and projection. I’m someone who appreciates a scent that lingers, that I can catch wafts of throughout the day, and that leaves a subtle trail without being overpowering. I don’t need every perfume to fill a room, but I do expect a decent sillage. Sacred Santal, which was the most tolerable of the bunch, disappeared from my skin almost entirely within two to three hours. The other scents fared even worse. This really impacts the value proposition for me. If a fragrance, especially one positioned as premium by some, requires constant reapplication, it quickly loses its appeal. I want to spray it on in the morning and not have to think about it again until late afternoon. I've been exploring other woody and musky scents recently, hoping to find something that truly hits that 'skin-like' yet sophisticated note. For those looking for true luxury in this category, I've found brands like Le Labo (Santal 33, of course, but also Another 13 for a beautiful skin musk) or Byredo (Mojave Ghost has a unique airy woodiness) deliver on that promise of complexity and lasting power. Even some more accessible niche brands offer better performance and depth for a similar price point. It makes me wonder if CYKLAR is perhaps still finding its footing, or if their target audience simply prefers very subtle, close-to-the-skin fragrances. So, while I love the idea of a new, hyped brand, I think I'll be sticking to my tried-and-true favorites or continuing my search for those hidden gems that truly offer a luxurious and long-lasting scent experience.
