How it impacts parents, students AND tutors…

Designing the progression system was no easy feat. But it was necessary. Not because we wanted to make something different. But because it simply makes sense.

At present, assessing a tutor has always been a tough task. Presented with simple profiles with basic information made every tutor feel the same with minor differences. It quickly feels like a wait and see situation rather than an informed choice. Word-of-mouth fared slightly better, given a reference point gave more confidence but the lack of a large enough sample meant it was still a slight gamble.

Without a progression system, it also felt like the industry lacks appreciation and support for the countless educators helping the next generation achieve more. The perceived glass ceiling, the feeling of being lost when starting and the confusion on how to improve and get better rates are prevalent issues in the industry.

With a clear, fair and transparent system in place, it doesn’t just create a level playing field, it upgrades every aspect of the old and gives our kids a better shot at finding that one educator that could make a big difference in our lives, for those of us lucky enough to have met one.

Here’s to a brighter tomorrow. For all of us.

... Read moreIn my experience working with tutors and navigating educational support for my children, one major challenge has always been finding a reliable, qualified tutor who fits our unique needs. Traditional tutor profiles typically offer very basic information, which makes distinguishing between tutors difficult and often turns the selection process into a guessing game. Without an objective framework, parents like me end up relying heavily on word-of-mouth recommendations—helpful but limited by small sample sizes and subjective opinions. The introduction of a transparent tutor progression system changes everything. From the perspective of a parent, it provides clear indicators of a tutor’s experience, skill level, and effectiveness, enabling more informed decisions. For students, this means they have a better chance of connecting with someone truly capable of addressing their academic challenges, improving engagement and results. For tutors, the benefits are equally significant. The system removes ambiguity around career progression by clearly outlining how they can improve their ranking and increase their rates. This motivates educators to refine their teaching methods, invest in further development, and feel appreciated for their efforts. Moreover, it reduces that dreaded glass ceiling feeling where tutors struggle to grow despite their commitment. Implementing such a system seems complex, but it ultimately makes perfect sense. It addresses the real pain points in tuition—clarity, fair recognition, and trust. I’ve observed that when tutors are rated and categorized in a fair manner, it cultivates a healthier tutoring ecosystem with higher standards and better satisfaction for all parties involved. Overall, adopting a well-designed progression system is a win-win: parents and students get better matches, and tutors receive the recognition and career advancement they deserve. It’s encouraging to see platforms prioritizing transparency and fairness, aiming for a brighter future in education where every child can find that one exceptional tutor who truly makes a difference.

Singapore’s education system struggles
Every year we double down on exams, tuition, model answers… and then we act surprised when AI outperforms the very skills we trained an entire generation for. The problem isn’t the students. It’s that the world moved on, and our system didn’t.
