The three T’s! My favorite & MOST SIMPLE way to pitch your pitch! #pitchingcoach #pitching #pitchingdrills #PitchingTips #softballpitcher
In my experience as a softball pitcher, embracing the Three T’s—Tall, Timing, and Tight—has been a game-changer. When I first started applying these principles, I noticed an immediate improvement in my control and ability to adjust pitches on the fly. Staying tall means maintaining good posture throughout your delivery, which helps keep your balance and generates more power. I used to slump as fatigue set in, which hurt my pitch accuracy. Focusing on staying tall kept me grounded and consistent. Timing is equally crucial. For me, it's about syncing the movement of my head, front foot, and arm in harmony. I remember a coach pointing out how a slight delay in my foot hitting the ground would throw off everything else. By practicing drills that emphasize rhythm, like snapping the ball just after foot strike, I enhanced my fluidity. Lastly, staying tight means controlling your body to prevent unnecessary movement—this prevents your ball from drifting left or right. I found that when I got tired or distracted, I’d ‘float’ through my release, causing wild pitches. Concentrating on this tightened my form and helped my pitches stay on target. One thing that dramatically helped me was making quick adjustments from pitch to pitch instead of waiting until my errors piled up. This approach mirrors the advice of not falling into the trap of trying the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. If you feel your mechanics slipping, fix it immediately by checking the Three T’s. Incorporating these into my training routine, especially during lessons or games, has allowed me to sharpen my skills and reduce errors without overhauling my pitching fundamentals. If you’re an experienced pitcher with minor mistakes, focusing on staying Tall, Timing your delivery perfectly, and staying Tight will often solve many common pitching problems.
