I did quite abit of prep work and research in the six months prior to my move and one of the most common tip I read was…. Aussie Employers ain’t gonna hire you if you can’t provide a local number on your application.
So, i hunted high and low for a provider (they have many, soooooo many providers I tell you, story for another day) that would allow me to sign up for a new number with the e-sim option. But I just couldn’t find one 🥺 For new numbers, the ones I found all required the physical sim card to be delivered to an aussie post address which obviously wouldn’t help me since I was still in SG.
Butbutbut! If you’re planning your #whvaustralia do check out Felix Mobile because they have the e-sim option! Only caveat is that when you register, you are still required to give an Australian address (last pic). One way is to provide the address of your first accommodation that you will be living in when you first start your journey. You will be able to change your address to your permanent residence afterwards. To ensure that you are able to receive calls, you’d also have to add on the international calls and texts option for $5/mth (2nd pic)
Getting an aussie number is crucial if you intend to start your job hunt process before you arrive, but I haven’t heard of many success cases where whv makers land a job prior to being here. Will be posting about my job hunt experience, so stay tuned! ❤️
... Read moreWhen I first started planning my move to Australia, I didn’t realize how important having a local phone number was for job applications and communication. After searching endlessly for an eSIM provider that didn’t require a physical SIM delivery to an Australian address, I was frustrated — until I found Felix Mobile.
Felix Mobile stood out because they offered a fully digital eSIM option that could be activated before arriving in Australia. The only catch was that I had to provide an Australian address during registration. For me, this was easy since I used the address of my initial accommodation. Later on, I could update this to my permanent residence.
What made Felix even more convenient was the additional $5/month add-on for unlimited international calls and texts. This ensured I could stay connected with friends and family abroad, as well as local contacts, without worrying about costly charges.
From my experience, having a local number ready before you land in Australia is definitely a smart move, especially if you want to kickstart your job search early. Although finding a job before arriving is rare, being reachable locally makes a big difference once you’re here.
If you're also prepping for a working holiday visa trip or relocation, I highly recommend checking out Felix Mobile’s eSIM plans through their app or website. They even offer a great introductory discount with the code FELIX50 for 50% off the first three months. It’s a flexible, no-lock-in contract service which gave me peace of mind.
I’ll be sharing updates on my job hunt journey soon, but for now, having my Aussie number sorted out with Felix has truly taken a weight off my shoulders and helped me get ahead on my new adventure in Australia.
