You ain’t gonna find a place so quickly 🫢

; back to workholidayvisa content after having so much fun being a tourist in 🇸🇬😅

Renting is Australia requires you to attend PHYSICAL INSPECTIONS which means, unless you have a friend/family in the country to rent from, you’re gonna book a hotel/hostel/airbnb for at least the first 2 weeks 🥲 since you can only go for inspections when you’ve arrived.

💡 therefore, Felly booked an Airbnb at Docklands for the first ten days while she settled in 😌

It was important that the location was near to the city 🏙️ so that administrative tasks (more in the next settling in post) can be easily handled. And if you’re not driving, Docklands is also in the free tram zone! Most importantly, she went for Airbnb as it came with a kitchen - ⭐️ important for saving money 💰

Pssst: for #solotravel , felly finds it safer to put min 2 pax for your booking so that no one knows you’re alone.

... Read moreWhen moving to Australia on a short stay visa, one challenge many face is securing accommodation without being physically present for property inspections. Based on my own stay, I highly recommend booking an Airbnb or similar short-term rental in areas like Docklands. This suburb is not only close to the city center, making daily errands and appointments easier, but it also lies within Melbourne's free tram zone—perfect if you don’t have a car. An Airbnb with a kitchen proved invaluable for me; preparing meals helped me save significantly compared to eating out every day. Plus, having grocery stores nearby made shopping convenient. From experience, securing a place for at least the first one or two weeks is essential since physical inspection visits to potential rental properties are mandatory in Australia. If you are traveling solo like me, consider booking for two people when reserving places through Airbnb or similar platforms. This small trick enhances safety by making it less obvious that you’re alone, which eased my peace of mind during the stay. Overall, planning ahead and understanding these nuances can turn what can seem like a daunting start into an enjoyable transition while on your short stay visa in Australia.
