Bamboozled 💥 by excellent Google Reviews 🤔

Newly opened (Aug’25)📍Kong Madam at Bugis with 4.6 🌟 on Google Reviews and with multiple Instagram accounts promoting their food, we thought that it was a good place to try out their homemade tofu kimchi soup dishes…but were left disappointed ☹️

Soup was also a tad too spicy, covering the taste of the beef, much less the tofu. Would have preferred the tofu to be less minced and soup less salty as well 🙂‍↕️ the hot stone rice portion was so small, and half of it had to be charred and too hard to eat.

Saving grace was the beef bulgogi that came as part of a combo meal. Meat was soft and well seasoned, with a reasonable portion size 😌

Only walk-ins are accepted, and you leave your number at the door. For a table for 2, we waited for less than 15mins during lunch hour on a Saturday - not too bad! But food took a while to be served 😬

I do nottttt think we would be back nor recommend this place, unfortunately. And the ratings on Google? Gotta take that with a pinch of salt!

... Read moreWhen visiting a new restaurant like Kong Madam recently opened in Bugis, Singapore, it’s always tempting to trust glowing Google Reviews and social media hype. However, my recent experience taught me to take those ratings with caution and set realistic expectations. The tofu kimchi soup, which was their signature dish, came across much spicier than anticipated, overpowering the subtle flavors of the beef and tofu itself. I personally prefer tofu to have more substantial chunks for better texture, but here it was minced, which felt less satisfying. The hot stone rice, a classic accompaniment in Korean cuisine, was disappointing too. Portion size was quite small and half of the rice was charred to a point where it was too hard to enjoy—something I found frustrating as crispy rice can add a nice contrast but should not be inedible. On the flip side, the beef bulgogi, part of their combo meal, was a pleasant surprise. The meat was tender, flavorful, and reasonably portioned, which somewhat salvaged the meal. From a service perspective, Kong Madam operates on a walk-in basis only, leaving your contact number at the door. We waited less than 15 minutes for a table of two during a busy Saturday lunch, which was acceptable. However, the food took quite a while to arrive. This kind of waiting can impact overall dining enjoyment, especially during peak hours. Overall, while new eateries with high Google ratings and Instagram presence can be promising, my experience at Kong Madam taught me to personally try dishes and not rely solely on online scores. If you’re planning to visit, consider ordering the beef bulgogi over the tofu kimchi soup. Also, prepare for a small hot stone rice portion and a wait during busy times. Hopefully, as they settle in, they might improve balance in their seasoning and portion sizes. Until then, I’d recommend cautious optimism for first-timers looking for authentic Korean homestyle dishes in Bugis.

I’d wanted to visit Chiang Mai for years—originally for the Yi Peng Festival, but the prices were too high, so we shifted our travel to January instead. It was a place both my husband and I wanted to explore, so we booked our Scoot flight and rented a car upon arrival. I also bought a Truemove 10-d
