Strawberries Picking @ Wanaka

🍓 Random #wanaka find!

We wanted to try fruit picking in NZ and stumbled upon Red Ridge Fruit Farm by the highway, surrounded by mountains ⛰️

Not even huge strawberry fans tbh — mostly here for the experience 😅

But the strawberries were actually really good: ripe, juicy, and generally sweet. Definitely eat a few while picking 😶

Only thing: there’s a 500g minimum pick per pax, which was quite a lot for us to eat with just a few remaining days in NZ 🥲

Not a fan of the picking experience? They do serve #strawberrysmoothie and ice creams too!

Still, a fun little stop amidst the #newzealandroadtrip

Red Bridge Berries
5/9 Edited to

... Read moreVisiting Red Ridge Fruit Farm for strawberry picking offers a refreshing and memorable outdoor experience, especially for those traveling through the scenic Wanaka region. The farm is conveniently located by the highway, making it an easy detour on a New Zealand road trip surrounded by beautiful mountain views. While strawberry picking may seem simple, the farm’s rules help preserve the plants and ensure a safe environment for all visitors. For instance, guests must stick to picking from rows that are designated open, avoid stepping on plants or plastic mounds, and refrain from pulling on any plants or berries to protect future crops. Additionally, pets and smoking are not allowed in the fields, and the boundary fence is electric for safety. The fresh strawberries at Red Ridge Fruit Farm are notably sweet, ripe, and juicy, making the picking activity quite rewarding even for those who are not typically big fans of strawberries. Sampling a few berries while picking is encouraged to appreciate their freshness. A practical note is the 500g minimum picking per person, which might challenge visitors who have limited time or appetite during their trip. However, this policy supports responsible harvesting and farm sustainability. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, the onsite shop offers strawberry smoothies and ice creams, allowing visitors to enjoy the farm’s produce without the picking effort. This makes Red Ridge Fruit Farm a versatile stop, appealing to families, couples, or solo travelers looking for a unique local activity. The blend of picturesque natural surroundings and delightful fruit treats creates a fun and refreshing break from conventional sightseeing. Overall, strawberry picking at Wanaka's Red Ridge Fruit Farm is not just an chance to taste local produce, but also an opportunity to connect with New Zealand's agricultural traditions amidst breathtaking landscapes. Whether picking strawberries or savoring strawberry-themed treats, visitors can enjoy a charming and enjoyable moment on their New Zealand adventure.
