Day 2 Gardening

Gardening, especially starting out, can often feel like a rollercoaster of emotions and learning moments. On day two of tending to my sunflowers, I faced the typical worries about overwatering and the effects of unpredictable weather. Rainy days can be tough on seedlings and plants, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot or fungal problems. I’ve found that keeping the growing area slightly ventilated yet protected helps balance humidity levels. One personal tip that has worked well is using a clear plastic bag as a mini greenhouse for seeds and young plants; however, it’s crucial to monitor the moisture inside. Leaving the bag sealed overnight without checking can sometimes trap too much water, which I was concerned about after my first night. Thankfully, the sun did peek out the next day, which really helps dry out excess moisture and boost photosynthesis. If you’re gardening through a rainy season like I am, consider placing your pots or planting bags in areas where you can easily cover them during heavy storms or relocate them to spots with better drainage. Additionally, checking soil moisture with your fingers can prevent overwatering mistakes—the soil should feel moist but not soggy.
