My affordable curly hair routine!! 🎀

After 4 years of being on a college student budget, this is my curly hair routine! I feel like this is good for anyone on a tight budget who has scalp/hair concerns similar to mine.

🫧Shampoo: #headandshoulders Royal Oils

- has apple cider vinegar and pyrithione zinc to control dandruff without stripping the hair/scalp. I love this cuz it was formulated with curly hair in mind. I follow up with a moisturizing shampoo more focused on the hair and ends.

- important to note the difference between dandruff and dry scalp. Dandruff is the result of too much oil on the scalp and an overgrowth of yeast called malassezia!

🧴Scalp Cream: Royal Oils Nighttime Scalp Tonic Lotion

- this product is a game changer when trying to control dandruff and itch, i dont see flakes for a couple days when using this. I put the cream throughout my scalp or in any visible parts.

🪮Leave In: #Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine

- this leave in is so affordable and melts into my hair like butter. This leave in hasn’t made my scalp break out into flakes at all. I thought this wouldn’t work for my hair texture but it does!

🎀Stylers: #asiam Classic Curling Jelly & #africanpride curling cream

- i use either one depending on my needs. The jelly is great in the warmer months and feels light, I dont have to worry about product buildup. The cream i start to use when it starts to get colder and my hair gets dryer.

💫Oil: Johnson’s #babyoil

- Ever since i was a kid i’ve been using baby oil!! I’ve tried out other more natural oils like tea tree, avocado, castor, etc, but they make my scalp flake up quickly. I like mineral oil surprisingly because the molecular size is actually too large to penetrate the skin, so it’s great to retain moisture in the skin and hair!

Start with a sulfate-free shampoo designed for curls, like Head & Shoulders Royal Oils, which contains apple cider vinegar and pyrithione zinc to combat dandruff effectively while being gentle on your scalp. Follow up with a hydrating leave-in conditioner such as Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine, renowned for its affordability and ability to leave hair soft and manageable without flaking. To enhance your styling routine, consider using the As I Am Classic Curling Jelly in warmer months for a lightweight feel that prevents product buildup. Alternatively, switch to the African Pride Curling Cream during colder months when hair often becomes drier. Also, using Johnson's Baby Oil can help seal in moisture effectively without causing breakouts. For anyone dealing with scalp issues, incorporating a scalp treatment like the Royal Oils Nighttime Scalp Tonic Lotion can significantly reduce itchiness and dryness. Understanding the difference between dandruff and dry scalp is crucial; the right products can help promote a healthier scalp and enhance the overall appearance of your curls. Remember, consistency is key in any hair care routine!
