私も三姉妹の母として、長女が次女や三女の世話役を押し付けられる場面に何度も直面しました。幼い頃、私が「お姉ちゃんなんだから我慢しなさい」と言い過ぎてしまい、長女が不満を口にし、「お姉ちゃんって嫌だ」と言ったことがありました。その時、ただ命令するだけでは心が離れてしまうことを痛感しました。 言語聴覚士としての知識も活かし、私は長女に対して「なぜお姉ちゃんとして待たなくてはいけないのか」「妹はまだ小さいから、少し待ってあげる必要がある」という事実を丁寧に伝えるようにしました。そして、「その協力のおかげでみんなが助かっているし、ありがとうね」と感謝の気持ちも伝えました。そうすると、次第に長女の表情や態度が柔らかくなり、心の負担が軽減されたのを感じました。 子どもは納得できないと防衛本能から「大切にされていない」と感じることがあります。だからこそ、ただ我慢を強いるのではなく、その理由を子ども自身が理解し受け入れることが鍵です。子育てにおいては、「我慢」という言葉を使わずに、具体的な状況説明と感謝の言葉を繰り返し伝えることで、子どもの自己肯定感と安心感を高めることができます。 また、それぞれの子の性格や心のキャパシティの違いも理解し、柔軟に対応することが必要です。私の場合、長女は繊細で負担を感じやすかったので、特に理由を丁寧に説明する時間を取りました。皆さんもぜひ、今日から実践できるこれらの声かけ術を試し、お子さんの心に寄り添う育児を目指してみてください。きょうだい育児の悩みが少しでも軽くなればうれしいです。
