Should LGBTQ+ be allowed to go to church?
This is a pretty touchy and hot subject. But why are we still asking this in 2025?
I recently went out with a friend and this conversation arose. We were talking about churches and she said, “all we can do is pray for those people”. She also implied she was against LGBTQ+.
I wasn’t sure what to say in response so I really just didn’t say anything.
I remember when I was younger and we were at church, a young man who was openly gay was at our service. He wasn’t there to do anything other than worship and hear the pastor speak. Our pastor confronted him in front of everyone and told him to leave. Then told him that he wasn’t welcome back.
I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. I think that was extremely wrong.
I believe everyone has the right to worship and attend church. I can’t fathom how some churches are like this. The one thing I love about the church I work for during summer camp is that they’re extremely inclusive. And we make that a huge point across summer camp and the before and after care programs.
So I want to know everyone else’s take. Do you believe the LGBTQ+ community has the right to attend church like everyone else?
