From personal experience and observation, the increase in diagnosed brain and heart strokes today is indeed striking compared to the past. One key factor is the advancement and accessibility of medical technology. In earlier decades, diagnostic tools like ECGs, blood tests, and imaging were not as widely available or sophisticated, leading many cases of stroke and infarction to go undetected or misdiagnosed. Additionally, lifestyles have drastically changed. Unlike previous generations who led physically active daily routines through walking and manual labor, modern life is largely sedentary, with prolonged sitting and less physical exercise becoming the norm. Convenience foods packed with high salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats are more common, which contribute to conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol—key risk factors for strokes. Moreover, modern stressors—including work pressure, urban lifestyle, and irregular sleep patterns—further compound these risks. Smoking and poor management of chronic diseases exacerbate the likelihood of cardiovascular events. From a preventive standpoint, monitoring vital health indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol regularly is crucial. Personally, adopting a balanced diet, incorporating daily physical activities such as walking or light exercise, and striving for adequate rest have made a difference. Awareness and proactive health management are essential, as the risks have shifted with societal changes. Instead of feeling alarmed about the apparent rise in strokes, it’s wise to focus on controllable factors to maintain heart and brain health in today’s fast-paced world.
