✨ Lesser-Known Hacks for Apartment Living??
🤔 What are your lesser known apartment hacks?
Lesser-Known Life Hacks for Millennials Living in Apartments 👇
⭐️ Creative Storage and Organization
• Use soda can tabs to double your closet space: Hook a soda tab over a hanger, then hang a second hanger from the lower hole—instantly stacking your clothes vertically and saving precious closet real estate. I know that sounds weird but trust me it’s a big space saver.
• Hang a wine rack in your bathroom to store rolled towels. It’s functional, saves space, and adds a stylish touch. Always know where towels are too lol
• Attach small holders or velcro strips to the sides of desks or tables to hide remotes, chargers, and other small electronics—keeping surfaces clutter-free and items easy to find. This is my favorite because clutter makes my ADHD go crazy.
• Repurpose a hanging shoe rack for pantry or cleaning supply storage. Hang it on the back of a door to neatly organize snacks, toiletries, or cleaning products out of sight. I love out of sight for this kind of stuff but still in sight enough to remember to use it!!
• Install racks or hooks inside cabinet doors for extra storage—great for lids, cleaning supplies, or hair tools. I do this in my kitchen!!
⭐️ Furniture and Layout Tricks
• Opt for multipurpose furniture: Think storage ottomans, sofa beds, or beds with built-in drawers. Modular or stackable pieces can be reconfigured as your needs change. I absolutely love my storage ottoman!!
• Use extendable tables that can expand for guests or projects, then shrink down to save space when not in use. I absolutely love these tables!! So convenient! Check thrift stores too!
• Choose furniture with legs (like mid-century modern pieces) to keep the floor visible, making your apartment feel more open and less cramped. I can’t stand feeling cramped so I do my best to get all my furniture tall and raised.
• Use room dividers with open shelving to separate spaces, add privacy, and provide extra storage without closing off your apartment. I love this because it helps me focus and hone in on my work away from the rest of the apartment.
⭐️ Smart Kitchen and Bath Solutions
• Install a magnetic knife strip on the wall to free up counter space and keep knives handy. This is safe too - put it on the wall above the stove out of kids reach!!
• Use a lazy Susan, or something similar - such as a dollar tree spinning makeup bin, inside cabinets or under sinks to easily access items in hard-to-reach spots.
• Organize bathroom supplies with labeled bins or over-the-toilet shelving to maximize vertical space. Vertical space use is a great hack for a more space feeling.
⭐️ Tech and Utility Hacks
• Amplify your phone’s sound by placing it in a cup or glass—no need for bulky speakers, and it’s perfect for small gatherings or solo dance parties. I didn’t know this but if my Bluetooth speaker dies I have a quick and temporary way to make my music louder.
• Use binder clips to organize cords around your TV or desk, preventing tangles and making it easier to unplug devices when needed. With sensory issues, I love this because I’m no longer fussing over cords.
• Invest in energy-saving bulbs and appliances to cut down on utility bills and environmental impact. My husband says we save $75-$150 a month depending since switching to automatic lights. Buy a pack of two to try on Amazon!!
⭐️ Lifestyle and Aesthetic Upgrades
• Hang bikes or skate equipment vertically on the wall to free up floor space and add a cool, urban vibe to your decor. I put up my boards!!
• Create a gallery wall with removable adhesive strips for art or photos—no holes required, and easy to update as your style changes. I buy a bunch from Temu!!
• Use mirrors strategically to reflect light and make small rooms feel larger and brighter. Best decision I ever made was buying a mirror for strategic reflection of light.
✨ Bonus Hacks for Apartment Living
• Be on good terms with your landlord—quick repairs, pet approvals, or lease negotiations are much easier if you have a positive relationship.
• Negotiate your rent at every lease renewal, not just when you move in—landlords often expect it, and you might score a better deal.
• Use a whiteboard or chalkboard for roommate reminders, grocery lists, or as a fun message center.
🏠 These hacks are all about making the most of limited space, saving money, and adding a touch of personality to your apartment—without risking your security deposit.
