White people and slavery

2/24 Edited to

... Read moreIn engaging with the topic of slavery and race, I have come to realize that historical context is crucial for a nuanced understanding. Slavery is not a practice that began with any one race; rather, it has been a global institution existing for millennia in various forms. The transatlantic slave trade, primarily led by European powers, is often the focus because of its brutal impact and scale, especially on African peoples and their descendants in the Americas. Through my own research and conversations, I've learned that the concept of race and racism as we understand them today were largely shaped during the era of European exploration and colonialism. This period saw the invention of race categories that were used to justify dominant groups exploiting others for economic and political power. Racism, therefore, is a social construct that has evolved over time and can manifest in many directions, not just from one group to another. I also find it important to recognize the ongoing effects these historical systems have on contemporary social dynamics, including crime statistics and racial tensions. Numbers alone don’t tell the whole story—they reflect deep socioeconomic factors tied to historical inequalities. It's essential to approach these discussions with empathy and avoid simplistic blame, appreciating that every individual’s character transcends skin color. Personally, embracing this broader perspective has helped me engage in more meaningful dialogues about race, privilege, and history. I've found that respectful conversation and education can bridge many divides, and it is through understanding and mutual respect that communities can begin to heal and grow stronger together. In the end, acknowledging the shared humanity behind these complex issues is key to moving forward positively.

Let that sink in. Not “at risk.” Not “vulnerable.” Slaves. If they control your food, your water, your bullets, your right to fight back — you’re not free. You’re just alive. And that ain’t the same. Freedom without defense is a setup. You’re one signature away from chains. One knock

White Men Fight Back? Fight What, Exactly? @arij
We don’t write the laws, we don’t set the value of the dollar, and we don’t control the resources—that’s the point. Those who do control those levers of power have historically been the same ones crying “fight back” whenever their dominance feels even slightly challenged. Godfrey was right to ask:
