How to warm up @ the gym 🤸🏾♀️
Dynamic stretching wakes up your muscles before a workout, while static stretching helps them cool down and lengthen afterward.
Which do you do first ?
When I started focusing on my gym warm-up routine, I noticed a significant difference in how my body felt during and after workouts. Dynamic stretching, such as leg swings, arm circles, and walking lunges, truly helps to increase blood flow and prepares the muscles for the upcoming activity. It’s like sending a wake-up call to your muscles so they function optimally. On the other hand, static stretching—holding stretches for 20-30 seconds—works best after the workout to relax and elongate muscles, which aids in recovery and reduces soreness. At first, I was unsure about the order and intensity of stretches, but following a consistent pattern helped reduce my muscle tightness and improved my overall mobility. It’s important to tailor your stretching routine to the type of workout you plan to do; for example, more dynamic movements before high-intensity or strength training, and gentler stretches after. Also, listening to your body and not forcing any stretch is key to preventing injuries. I highly recommend incorporating both types of stretches into your gym sessions. Dynamic stretching sets the tone for a safe and effective workout, while static stretching completes the session by helping your muscles recover. This balanced approach makes workouts more enjoyable and sustainable over time.
