... Read moreI remember a time when I desperately wanted a certain person to be in my life, whether as a friend or more. I prayed, I hoped, I envisioned it, but it just never materialized. It felt like God wasn't listening, or worse, that He just wasn't giving me the people I wanted. There were moments of real disappointment, where it felt like 'no rooms' were opening for the connections I longed for, and frankly, I felt overwhelmed and a bit heartbroken. Have you ever felt that way? It's a lonely place to be, questioning divine timing and your own worth.
What I slowly began to realize, through reflection and turning to my faith, is that God truly is our 'FAITHFUL FATHER.' The path He lays out for us, even when it involves perceived absence or waiting, is always for our ultimate good. It’s hard to see when you're in the middle of a 'storm,' feeling like you're 'drowning,' but just as the devotional says, He is our 'CAPTAIN,' our 'LIFEGUARD.' This realization shifted my perspective. I started to understand that sometimes, the people we think we want might not be what's truly best for our spiritual growth or overall peace.
I found immense comfort in the idea that 'He is your REFUGE' and 'He is your PEACE.' When those feelings of longing or rejection crept in, I learned to run to Him instead of dwelling on what wasn't. The Bible, even in challenging books like Job, speaks of God's ultimate healing and protection. 'Though he wounds, he also bandages. He strikes, but his hands also heal.' This passage resonated deeply. It's not about being denied, but perhaps being protected from what might wound us more deeply in the long run. He's not just a 'PROVIDER' of material things, but of the right relationships and inner serenity.
It’s a journey of learning to trust that God's plans are always greater than our immediate desires. When it felt like there were 'no rooms' for my specific hopes, I had to actively seek out the 'joy of those corrected by God' – understanding that His discipline, or His redirection, isn't punishment but a pathway to something better. He 'performs countless miracles' not always by giving us exactly what we ask for, but by transforming our hearts and showing us new blessings we never anticipated. This trust allows us to be 'at peace with the stones of the field,' even when our environment feels barren or our hopes seem unfulfilled.
So, if you're struggling with the feeling that 'God does not give you the people you want,' please know you're not alone. I've learned that truly spending time with the Lord, as the original thought so beautifully reminds us, is a blessing in itself. It's in His presence that we find our true 'refuge' and 'peace,' and where we can trust that He will 'save you from death in time of famine,' meaning spiritual lack. He provides what we *need*, even if it's not always packaged in the form we initially desired. Keep leaning into His unwavering love; He is preparing you, and the right connections, in His perfect timing.
