In my experience, marriage is truly a commitment that requires active stewardship, much like managing something precious that belongs to a higher purpose. When my partner and I first recognized that selfish choices and lack of communication were straining our relationship, we realized that these behaviors were not just damaging us individually but eroding the very foundation of our covenant. Taking the time to pause and reflect before acting—essentially to STOP, DROP, and REPENT as the saying goes—can bring a powerful shift. It’s about creating space to listen deeply, not just to respond but to understand. Husbands who lead without listening or wives who act without consultation often create unseen rifts. It’s in that gap that distrust and division creep in. What helped us was consciously managing our marriage as a stewardship task entrusted to us by God, recognizing it as a shared responsibility rather than a solo venture. This mindset nurtured a culture of communication and accountability at home. We found that openly discussing our struggles and weaknesses was humbling but essential for building peace and unity. Moreover, pride is a silent but potent force that weakens marriage bonds. Letting go of pride and embracing humility allows healing discussions and reconciliation. Silence, too, can be harmful—it often masks unresolved issues that should instead be addressed with honesty and empathy. In practical terms, stewardship means regularly evaluating how your individual actions impact your spouse and the marriage covenant. It means choosing obedience to the bigger picture of unity over personal convenience or pride. Since embracing this approach, what once was tension has grown into deeper mutual respect, proving that marriage isn’t a solo performance but a sacred stewardship worth investing in every day.
