My lemon 8 conspiracy theory
I’ve been on this app most of this year and I’ve watched it devolve from actual creative inspiration and community to constant vitriol and an onslaught of aggressively political posts even if I try my hardest to avoid them.
The past week I decided to delve in and do a bit of research, read thru the comments and see if I can see what changed. After taking all the negativity in I can really only come to one conclusion, lemon 8 is having a similar issue to fb and old twitter had around 2016-2018 but to an extreme degree.
The next part of my note may sound crazy but I also plan on leaving a link in the comments to a reporters and a video that I feel like will help explain what I’m talking about to a more professional / scientific degree - I’m just not nearly as good at presenting information so please check that out :
With that being said I genuinely believe “troll farms” have started targeting lemon 8 in order to disrupt our younger people, specifically younger women (this time since it’s the main demographic they missed last time) in order create tension / aggression and eventually isolation.
If you feel isolated, like you have no community / no hope you’re less likely to try and more likely to become depressed - depression and loneliness can cause a plethora of mental and physical health issue but most important it breaks down your cognitive and critical thinking skills making you easier to control and manipulate and the cycle continues, spiraling further down. Eventually we end up in situations we’re in now, for examples all the young men that unfortunately fell under Andrew Tate and now struggle every day to reintegrate into society correctly.
What I’m saying, or I guess TLDR; don’t trust everything you read online and please try to stop the cycle whenever you see it. Google/bing/wiki are all free and help a lot more than you might imagine - research everything you read and check every profile you find being despicable, they’re probably bots and the info mostly incorrect. Don’t let them build false walls in your heart, most people are good, and social media was built to control / market to you, not care for you so take everything it says with a grain of salt 🫶🏻
