Bakpao & Pisgor

2/11 Edited to

... Read moreBakpao and pisgor are wonderful examples of popular Asian snacks that bring comfort and joy with every bite. Bakpao, also known as steamed buns, are soft, fluffy, and often filled with savory or sweet fillings like pork, chicken, or sweet red bean paste. Pisgor, short for "pisang goreng," refers to fried bananas, a crispy and sweet treat loved across Southeast Asia. When I first tried making bakpao, I was amazed at how simple ingredients like flour, yeast, sugar, and water could transform into such a light and airy bun. The dough needs careful kneading and a good resting period for the yeast to work its magic. For filling, I experimented with traditional pork fillings and sweet custard, each bringing its unique flavor profile to the soft bun. Pisgor is equally satisfying to prepare. Ripe bananas, coated in a light batter made from flour and sometimes coconut milk, are deep-fried until golden brown. The contrast of the warm, soft banana inside with the crispy outside creates a perfect snack. Adding a sprinkle of powdered sugar or drizzling with chocolate sauce can make pisgor even more irresistible. Both snacks are fantastic for family gatherings or as a delightful treat during tea time. Sharing homemade bakpao and pisgor not only brings a taste of Asian culinary tradition into your home but also creates cherished moments with loved ones. If you enjoy cooking and discovering new recipes, trying bakpao and pisgor can be a rewarding experience that combines cooking skills with cultural flavors.
