This building has more layers than my travel plans.

6/17 Edited to

... Read moreVisiting this building near Ueno felt like unfolding an unexpected map of flavors and culture layered within one structure. Each floor seemed to reveal a new surprise—from the savory tastes of 喜半門 (KIYOUMON) offering authentic Chinese dishes to the inviting aroma of HAND DRIP COFFEE, which warmed up the atmosphere. What I found particularly interesting was how the building captured a microcosm of urban Japan, with places like 大户屋, a well-known spot for comforting Japanese meals, alongside more casual venues such as FamilyMart. Incidentally, the FamilyMart at 上野仲町通り店 boasts what they call their '史上最高コーヒ' or 'best coffee ever,' which made for a perfect quick pick-me-up during my visit. The presence of 星乃珈琲店 also adds a unique charm; their slow drip coffee is renowned for its rich taste, allowing visitors to take a relaxing break amidst the bustling surroundings. What ties everything together is the building’s connection to Shinobazu-dori Avenue, making it an easy and scenic walk from popular landmarks in Ueno. If you’re a traveler or a local who loves discovering hidden gems, this layered building offers a wonderful blend of traditional and modern dining experiences. It's a reminder that sometimes the most memorable travel moments happen when exploring the unexpected, especially in buildings with so many layers—both literally and figuratively.
