Traveling with pets, especially dogs, can be an exciting yet challenging experience. From my personal experience flying with my dog, Essa, I’ve learned that preparation is key to a smooth trip. Before heading to the airport, make sure you check the airline’s policy on pets, including carrier size and health certificates. At the airport, it helps to arrive early to allow plenty of time for check-in and security screening. Essa stayed calm throughout because I kept her comfortable in her crate and brought some of her favorite toys. Many airports now have designated pet relief areas, so it’s good to know where these are in advance. The flight itself can be stressful for pets, so I recommend acclimating your dog to its carrier days before travel and avoiding feeding them a large meal right before the flight to prevent discomfort. After landing, a little car ride home always helps pets relax and adjust after the journey. One thing I always look forward to after traveling is enjoying my favorite food again—on this trip, sushi was the perfect treat to celebrate a successful journey. Whether traveling for leisure or relocating, sharing these moments with our pets makes the adventure even more special.
