私も以前、青メダカを室内の水槽で飼育していた経験があります。最初は順調に増えていったのですが、ある日突然メダカが次々と減っていくことに気づき、とても焦りました。その原因がヤゴの大量発生だったというケースは意外に多いです。 ヤゴの発生源は主に水草や底砂に付着していることが多く、特に室内水槽であっても外部から持ち込んだ水草に卵が付いていることがあります。私の場合もヤゴの存在に気づかず、水替え時に異変を感じて調査した結果ヤゴの卵を確認。早めの対処が必要で、ヤゴはメダカを食べてしまうため放置は致命的です。 対策としては、水草を導入する前に熱湯消毒や、冷凍保存によってヤゴの卵を殺菌する方法があります。また、水槽の掃除をこまめにすることも効果的です。さらに、ヌマエビやタニシなどの生き物を一緒に飼うことで、ヤゴの繁殖を抑止できる場合もありますが、生態バランスには注意が必要です。 ヤゴが発生すると室内にトンボが飛び交う可能性もあるため、室内飼育でも油断は禁物です。メダカの健康だけでなく、水槽全体の環境管理がとても重要だと実感しました。これからメダカ飼育を始める方には、ぜひ水草や底砂の扱いに気をつけ、定期的な観察と清掃をおすすめします。飼育の楽しみを長く味わうためにも、こうした経験を共有することは価値があると思います。
