... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my Day 1 movement journey, I wanted to dive deeper into "Finding Joy in Movement As a plus size millennial." For too long, movement felt like a punishment. But what if we could change that? For me, joy isn't about calories or speed, even if my smartwatch showed 1.45 miles today. It's about the *feeling*—fresh air, rhythmic steps, my body's strength. It's self-care, appreciating my body instead of criticizing it. So, how do we find this joy? It starts with "Taking one day at a time" and being kind to ourselves. Here are a few things I’m focusing on: Redefine Movement: Forget intense, sweat-soaked workouts. Gentle activities like a leisurely walk, dancing to your favorite music, gardening, or stretching absolutely count! The goal is consistent enjoyment, not exhaustion. If 29 minutes and 46 seconds of walking feels good, that’s a win. Listen to Your Body: This is crucial. Our bodies send signals. Tired? Opt for gentle yoga. Energetic? A brisk walk. Honor your body’s daily needs to prevent burnout. Explore New Activities: Don't limit yourself. Ever wanted to try swimming, cycling, or a dance class? Experiment until you find what genuinely lights you up. Focus on Internal Benefits: Shift away from weight or appearance. Instead, pay attention to how movement *feels*. More energy? Brighter mood? Better sleep? Clearer mind? These internal rewards are powerful motivators. Ditch the Comparison Trap: As a plus-size individual, it’s easy to compare. But your journey is unique. Celebrate your progress and enjoyment. Remember "LOVE YOUR SELF" – movement can be a profound expression of self-love, proving you deserve to feel good, strong, and vibrant. Create a Positive Atmosphere: Put on your favorite playlist, wear comfortable clothes, find a scenic route, or invite a supportive friend. Make movement something you anticipate with pleasure. This 30-day challenge is about building a sustainable, joyful relationship with my body. It’s about proving movement can be a source of happiness and strength, regardless of size. Let's support each other in finding our unique ways to move with joy!
