I tried to make a mysterious model that looks floating with disposable chopsticks and thread.
I recommend it for summer vacation work.
The materials used are disposable chopsticks, thread, and adhesive.
By connecting the upper and lower triangles with threads and gradually adjusting the tension of the threads, the upper triangle becomes a tensegrity structure that seems to be floating in the air.
At first, I thought, "Is this really going to float?," but the moment I got the balance was a little 😊
The point was not to set the three threads at once, but to adjust them little by little so that the upper triangle was horizontal.
You can make it with familiar materials and experience the mechanism of the structure, so it was interesting as a manufacturing.
私もこのテンセグリティ模型に挑戦してみた経験があります。割り箸の長さは約5cmから10cmを基準にし、糸の張り具合を微調整することで見事に上の三角形が宙に浮く状態を作り出せました。 最初は糸の張り加減が難しく、三角形がぐらついたり倒れたりもしましたが、3本の糸を一気に締めるのではなく、一本ずつゆっくり張りながら水平を意識すると安定します。接着剤も割り箸の接合部をしっかり固定することがポイントです。 テンセグリティ構造は建築や橋梁、アート作品にも応用されている興味深い構造様式です。身近な材料でその仕組みを体験できる工作は、子どもから大人まで楽しめます。 また、模型の完成後は机の上に置くだけでなく、動かして糸の張り具合が全体のバランスにどう影響するか観察するのもおすすめです。実体験を通じて構造の理解が深まるので 、自由研究や夏休みの課題としてもぴったりです。 最後に、割り箸の寸法や糸の長さ（5CM、10CM、2CMなど）を変えたり、三角形の角度を約45度に調整することで、見た目やバランスがどう変わるかチャレンジしてみるのも楽しいですよ！この手作りテンセグリティ模型は、ものづくりの面白さと科学的な面白さを同時に味わえるおすすめの工作体験です。
