I've always found myself avoiding romance movies, and my thoughts often drift back to powerful stories like Wuthering Heights. Unlike typical romance films, this classic intertwines love with tragedy and raw emotions, which sometimes makes me feel uneasy with more conventional romantic plots. Romance movies can sometimes feel overly sentimental or unrealistic, which contrasts with the darker, more complex depiction of love in works like Wuthering Heights. The intense emotions and turmoil portrayed there resonate more with my personal experience of relationships, reminding me that love isn't always simple or happy. Additionally, the label "favorite horror movie" connected to Wuthering Heights hints at how some find the passionate and sometimes destructive aspects of such stories unsettling, similar to the discomfort one might feel with romantic narratives. Ultimately, this preference reflects not just a taste in movies but a deeper connection to stories that reveal the multifaceted nature of love — its beauty and its pain. For me, romance films often lack this depth, which is why I find myself steering clear of them in favor of more complex narratives.
