I always hope that when I’m flying in my weightloss journey that I am becoming I motivation for others to keep at it, but a huge fear of mine is inadvertently discouraging others with my fast losses, who are working harder than myself to try and reach the same goal!
I know what works for my body and I mostly know what foods trigger a drop, stall or gain for /my/ personal body as I’ve been on this yo-yo journey since I was around 15!
When I was 18, my highest weight was 225, dropping down to 137 by age 20 and had maintained that for years until moving out at 23 years old. Fast food, high quantities of food, easy meals all within reach of walking or delivery did not help! And I yo-yoed even harder trying to get back down! The lowest I had gotten was 180 for a point in 2019 before my dad got cancer (he’s fine now and in remission), but it derailed me hard!
All this to say that I’ve been on this journey so many times that I know what works and doesn’t work! If you want any advice on what worked for me and what may work for you, just message me! 🥺 I’m always down to make new friends!
... Read moreHey everyone! So many of you have asked about my recent progress, especially seeing that downward trend on my weight loss chart from around 204 to 196.8 (yes, that was me hitting 196.8 by August 17th!). It feels amazing, but I know how frustrating it can be when your own chart isn't moving exactly how you want it to. I've definitely been there!
One thing I've learned from my years of yo-yo dieting is that understanding your own body and how to track effectively is key. It's not just about stepping on the scale every day. While a weight loss tracking graph is super motivating when you see that downward curve, remember that daily fluctuations are totally normal! Don't let a small bump up discourage you. Instead, look at the weekly or even bi-weekly averages to spot the real downward trend. I love using an app that smooths out the data so I can see the bigger picture more clearly. This helps me stay focused on the long-term progress rather than getting caught up in day-to-day ups and downs.
To achieve that consistent downward trend, for me, it really boils down to a few core things that might surprise you, especially if you’re focusing solely on restricting. First, hydration is non-negotiable. I try to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. It helps with satiety, metabolism, and even energy levels. Second, identifying my personal trigger foods has been a game-changer. For example, I noticed certain processed snacks or excessive sugary drinks would always lead to a stall or even a slight gain for me, even if I was otherwise eating healthy. Once I swapped those out for whole, nutrient-dense options like fruits, veggies, and lean proteins, my progress became much more consistent. It’s not about cutting everything out, but understanding what truly serves your body and makes you feel good.
Another huge tip for a sustainable downward trend is finding movement you genuinely enjoy. For me, it's not always about intense gym sessions; sometimes it’s just a long walk with my dog, dancing around the house, or a gentle yoga session. When it feels like a chore, it’s hard to stick with it. And finally, don’t forget the power of sleep! Rest and recovery are often overlooked but are crucial for hormone balance, which directly impacts weight loss and your ability to make good food choices throughout the day.
If you're looking at your own weight loss tracking graph and feeling stuck, my advice is to take a step back. Re-evaluate your consistent habits for a week or two. Are you hydrated? Are you getting enough sleep? What are your go-to snacks? Are you moving your body in a way that feels good? Making small, sustainable changes based on what you observe in your own body will lead to that satisfying downward trend you’re looking for. Remember, your journey is unique, and comparing your fast losses to someone else's slower progress (or vice-versa) can be discouraging. Focus on your progress, your downward trend, and celebrate every small victory. You've got this! Let's keep supporting each other on this journey.
I love using Noom! I could automatically tell that’s the app you’re using and I’m so glad to find someone else who’s using it to help their journey!
