Press on nails
My adhd makes me think I can learn how to do everything, the last few months has been learning to do my press ons. #pressons #diynailsathome #rednails #winternails
I totally get that feeling of wanting to try everything – for me, it led me down the rabbit hole of DIY press-on nails! What started as a fun experiment quickly turned into my go-to routine for beautiful, salon-worthy nails without the salon price tag or time commitment. If you're tired of chipped polish or expensive appointments, let me share my complete DIY press-on nails tutorial, packed with all the tips I've learned along the way to make them last! First things first, let's gather your arsenal. You'll need a set of good quality press-on nails (I love trying out different shapes and colors, especially festive red nails for winter!), nail glue (or adhesive tabs if you prefer less commitment), a nail file, a buffer block, alcohol prep pads (or rubbing alcohol and cotton pads), and a cuticle pusher. Trust me, proper prep is everything for longevity! Here's my step-by-step guide for a flawless application: Prep Your Natural Nails: This is the most crucial step! Start by gently pushing back your cuticles with a cuticle pusher. Next, lightly buff the surface of each nail. This creates a slightly rough texture for the glue to adhere to. Finally, cleanse your nails thoroughly with an alcohol prep pad to remove any oils or dust. Don't skip this – oils are the enemy of long-lasting press-ons! Size Your Press-Ons: Lay out all your press-on nails and match each one to your natural nail, from thumb to pinky. Make sure the press-on fits snugly from side wall to side wall without overlapping your skin. If it’s slightly too wide, you can gently file the sides down before applying. Apply Adhesive: If you're using nail glue, apply a small dot to your natural nail and a thin line to the back of the press-on nail, near the cuticle edge. Be careful not to use too much, as it can squeeze out the sides. If you prefer adhesive tabs, simply peel and stick them onto your natural nails, ensuring they cover most of the nail bed. Press On! Starting from your cuticle, align the press-on nail and firmly press it down onto your natural nail. Hold it for at least 15-20 seconds, applying steady pressure. This helps to secure a strong bond and prevent air bubbles. Repeat this process for all your nails. Refine (Optional): Once all your nails are applied, you can gently file them to your desired shape or length if needed. I often do this to customize the look. Now, for those crucial tips to make your DIY press-ons last for weeks! Avoid getting your hands wet for at least 1-2 hours after application. This gives the glue time to fully cure. When doing chores, wear gloves to protect your nails from harsh chemicals and excessive water exposure. If a nail feels loose, don't ignore it! Gently remove it, clean both surfaces, and reapply with fresh glue. I've found that proper technique means I can rock my nails, whether they're classic red or a glittery winter design, for well over a week, sometimes even two! When it's time for removal, please be gentle to protect your natural nails. Soak your hands in warm, soapy water with a bit of oil (like cuticle oil or olive oil) for 10-15 minutes. Then, use a wooden stick or a dental floss string to gently wiggle and pry the press-ons off, working from the sides. Never yank them off dry! Doing my own press-ons has been such a game-changer. It's empowering to know I can achieve such a polished look right from my living room, and it's fantastic for expressing different moods or seasons, like embracing those cozy winter nails. Give it a try – you might just surprise yourself with how good you become!
