Why do men circle back after ghosting?

I have noticed a trend where many men tend to disappear and then return either weeks or months later stating some excuse about being busy at work or that the weeks got away from them. Part of me feels like all of these are not real excuses and so I just wonder why a man would circle back? This is all just curiosity. No judgment or expectations. If anybody would like to share their own personal experiences with circling back, I would love to understand. TIA

... Read moreI couldn't agree more with your observation! It's incredibly frustrating and confusing when someone you've been connecting with suddenly disappears, only to pop back into your DMs or life weeks or even months later. I've been there, and I know so many others who have too. The 'I've been busy' excuse is almost a classic at this point, right? It leaves you wondering, 'Why now? And why couldn't they just say something earlier?' From what I've gathered and experienced in various relationships, there are a few common theories about why men (or anyone, really) decide to 'circle back' after ghosting. One of the most common reasons, unfortunately, is that they might have been keeping you as a 'backup plan.' Maybe their other options didn't pan out, or they're just feeling a bit lonely or bored, and remember the connection you had. It's a low-effort way to test the waters and see if you're still available and interested. It can feel quite dismissive, almost like they expect you to just be waiting. Another possibility is a sudden pang of guilt or curiosity. They might genuinely wonder how you're doing, or perhaps something reminded them of you, sparking a desire to reconnect. This doesn't necessarily mean they've changed or understood the impact of their ghosting, but it's a less cynical explanation. Sometimes, people are just genuinely overwhelmed with life, work, or personal issues, and they shut down. While not an excuse for poor communication, for some, ghosting might be a default avoidance mechanism when things get tough. Then, when the dust settles, they might regret their actions and try to mend things. The feeling of being ghosted hurts, and it can leave you second-guessing yourself or the entire connection. It's perfectly normal to feel confused, disappointed, or even angry. When they do circle back, it can stir up all those emotions again. This is where it gets tricky – how do you respond? If a guy who ghosted you suddenly invites you to a party, for example, it's often a very casual way for them to gauge your interest without risking a direct, potentially awkward, one-on-one interaction. It puts the ball in your court. They might be hoping you'll show up, making it easier for them to approach you in a group setting, or they might just be trying to appear friendly without any deeper intentions. It's important to remember that an invitation like that isn't an apology for their previous behavior. When someone who ghosted you reappears, it's totally okay to take your time to decide how to react. Ask yourself what you truly want. Do you want closure? Are you willing to give them another chance, provided they can offer a genuine explanation and apology? Or do you feel it's best to move on and protect your peace? If you decide to engage, it's completely valid to express how their disappearance made you feel. Clear communication can help you understand their intentions and also set boundaries for any potential future interaction. Ultimately, whether it's in serious relationships or even just casual connections, remembering your own worth is key. You deserve clear communication and respect. There's no judgment or expectations on how you should handle these situations; it's about what feels right for you and your well-being. It's a tough situation, but knowing you're not alone in experiencing it can sometimes make it a little easier.

How to respond to ghosting
Here’s something most people don’t realize about ghosting. When a conversation ends without explanation, the brain treats it like an unfinished story. Your mind keeps replaying the date, the jokes, the small moments — not because you’re weak, but because your nervous system is wired to look for
