key ages: 55 to 59.5 for 401(k) access, 62 for partial Social Security, 65 for Medicare. But 55 to 65?, there are 3 options: 1. employer retiree plans (cheapest!), 2. Obamacare, or 3. private insurance.
My old company offers retiree healthcare, which is $68/month now, $110 post-retirement for a solid PPO. Had to dig for it though. HR never advertised it! You need 15+ years tenure and hired between 2003-2012. Classic “ask or miss out” corporate perk.
If your company doesn’t offer this, Obamacare’s a lifesaver, no denying pre-existing conditions, plus subsidies. Before that, ppl with health issues were screwed.

This is such useful info! I'm curious, did you have to jump through hoops to get your company's benefit?
