When that conviction hits, it hits hard 😫
It's easy to find yourself in a spiritual rut, feeling like a 'lukewarm Christian.' I know I've been there. You go to church, you say your prayers, but deep down, you feel a disconnect, a lack of genuine passion. That's exactly where I was for a long time. It felt like I was just going through the motions, and honestly, it was tiring and unfulfilling. But then, something shifted for me when I truly started reading my Bible. And let me tell you, when that conviction hits, it hits hard! What does it even mean to be lukewarm? The Bible actually talks about it in Revelation 3:15-16, where it says, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” This isn't about being perfect; it's about the state of your heart and your engagement. For me, it meant intellectual assent without true heart transformation. I believed in God, but I wasn't actively seeking Him or letting His Word deeply impact my life. My turning point was when I committed to consistently reading my Bible. It wasn't just about skimming verses; it was about truly engaging with the text, asking questions, and letting the Holy Spirit speak. When you've been a lukewarm Christian and you start reading your Bible with an open heart, you begin to see things differently. You start understanding God's character, His love, and His expectations for us. This is where the process of 'working out your faith' truly begins. So, how do we move from being a lukewarm Christian to someone with a vibrant, growing faith? Here are some steps that have helped me: Consistent Engagement with Scripture: Don't just read; study. Pick a book of the Bible, read it slowly, meditate on it, and journal what speaks to you. The more time you spend in God's Word, the more it will transform you from the inside out. This is foundational to how not to be a lukewarm Christian. Intentional Prayer: Move beyond rote prayers. Talk to God as you would a friend. Share your struggles, your joys, and listen for His guidance. Prayer is a powerful way to cultivate intimacy and depend on Him. Seek Community: Surround yourself with fellow believers who challenge and encourage you. Share your journey, ask for prayer, and learn from each other. We're not meant to do this alone. Embrace Conviction: This is key. John 16:7-8 says, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.” The Holy Spirit convicts us, not to condemn, but to guide us toward truth and righteousness. This conviction, though sometimes uncomfortable, is God's loving hand gently steering us back to Him. It's a sign that He cares and wants us to grow. Act on What You Learn: Faith without works is dead. As you read your Bible and receive conviction, put it into practice. Obedience strengthens your faith and helps you truly work out your salvation. Moving away from a lukewarm faith isn't a one-time event; it's a continuous journey of drawing closer to God. The beautiful thing is, He's always ready to meet us where we are and transform us. If you're feeling lukewarm, take that step today to dive into His Word. You'll be amazed at how quickly His truth can reignite your spirit and deepen your conviction.
