Why is no one talking about the Dubrovnik Riviera in Croatia?
🇭🇷 While everyone knows that the Old Town of Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, so many people skip the region surrounding the city.
🏖️ The Dubrovnik Riviera of course includes Dubrovnik itself, but you’re missing out if you skip the small islands and coastline surrounding the city.
☀️ The Dubrovnik Riviera has incredible laid-back beaches, the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, charming hotels, and world-class restaurants. I highly recommend adding it to your European summer itinerary.

I've traveled quite a bit, and one of my absolute favorite discoveries has been the incredible Dubrovnik Riviera in Croatia. While the iconic Old Town gets all the spotlight (and rightly so, it's stunning!), I really wish more people knew about the magic waiting just beyond its walls. It's not just about history; it's about pure, sun-drenched relaxation and adventure. When people ask, 'Are there beaches in Dubrovnik?' my answer is always a resounding YES, especially when you venture into the wider Dubrovnik Riviera! Forget crowded city spots; this region boasts some of the most pristine and diverse beaches I've ever seen. You'll find everything from pebbly coves perfect for snorkeling in crystal-clear waters to more expansive stretches ideal for sunbathing. My personal favorites are often the ones you discover by accident after a scenic drive or a short boat ride. Places like Pasjača Beach, though a bit of a trek to get to, offer dramatic cliffs and incredibly clear water – it feels like a secret paradise. For something more accessible, Banje Beach near the Old Town is famous, but for a truly local vibe, head to Lapad Bay. And don't forget the beaches on the islands, like those around Korčula, which often have fewer crowds and even more serene settings. Many of these spots even have charming beach bars or small restaurants where you can grab a bite and a refreshing drink. Beyond just lounging on the 'best beaches Dubrovnik' has to offer, the activities here are endless. My trip included so much more than just beach hopping! Kayaking around the city walls at sunset was an unforgettable experience, offering a unique perspective of Dubrovnik. For a taste of local culture, I highly recommend visiting some of the smaller towns and villages along the Riviera, like Cavtat. It’s a picturesque town with a lovely promenade, ancient ruins, and a much more relaxed pace than Dubrovnik. We also took a boat trip to the Elaphiti Islands – Lopud, Koločep, and Šipan. Each island has its own character, from sandy beaches to charming monasteries and olive groves. Renting a scooter on one of these islands and just exploring for a day was one of the highlights. And for foodies, the Dubrovnik Riviera is a dream! The fresh seafood is unparalleled, often caught that very morning. Look for konobas (traditional taverns) hidden away in small villages for authentic experiences. The Vrnik Arts Club on Vrnik island, for example, is not just a place to eat but an experience in itself, combining art, nature, and incredible food. To really make the most of your visit to the Dubrovnik Riviera, Croatia, I'd suggest renting a car for a few days to explore the coastline at your own pace, or consider a private boat tour to reach those secluded coves. Don't be afraid to wander off the beaten path – that's where the real 'hidden gems' are found. This region truly offers a perfect blend of history, natural beauty, and relaxation. Trust me, you'll be wondering why you didn't visit sooner, just like I did!
