🍓⭐️DIY Fridge Magnets 🍎🦆

🍄 I used to make a ton of perler bead crafts as a kid and have been getting back into it recently! It has been a ton of fun and it feels like coloring or doing a paint by number for those of you who haven’t tried before 🖍️

Materials:

Perler (or Hamma) beads, bead board, parchment paper, tweezers, and an iron

Instructions:

1. Gather inspo by finding some pixel art or finding an item from your favorite pixel game you want to create

2. Sort through your beads and find the colors you are going to use

3. Assemble your beads on the bead board according to the pixel art

4. Put the parchment paper on top and iron the beads (this melts them together)

5. Let cool then peel off the parchment paper

6. Complete! Now you can leave it as is, add a magnet to the back, add a hair clip, or a key ring for a keychain. There are many things you can create!

... Read moreYou know, getting back into perler beads has been such a nostalgic trip! It's truly meditative, almost like a puzzle or a grown-up coloring book. I remember making these as a kid, and now, as an adult, I find it just as relaxing and rewarding to create something tangible. My fridge used to be so plain, but now it's a vibrant gallery of colorful DIY perler bead magnets, with everything from adorable fruits and animals to little pixel art characters from my favorite games. If you're looking for a fun, creative outlet, I highly recommend diving into the world of perler beads! One of the trickiest parts, but also the most satisfying, is the ironing process. Getting that perfect melt can make or break your design! First off, make sure you're always using parchment paper (or baking paper, as some call it) between the iron and your beads. This protects both your iron and your creation. I usually set my iron to a medium heat, no steam. Place the parchment paper over your design on the bead board, then gently press the iron down, moving it in small circles. Don't press too hard, or you might flatten the beads too much and lose the 'pixel' look! Keep an eye on the beads through the parchment paper – you'll see them start to fuse together. Some people like them fully melted with no holes, others prefer them with small holes still visible for that classic perler bead look. I usually go for a medium melt, just enough to make them sturdy. Once one side is done, let it cool for a minute or two, then carefully peel off the parchment paper. Flip your design over, place the parchment paper on the other side, and repeat the ironing process. This makes your magnet much more durable! Always let them cool completely under a heavy book to prevent warping. Trust me, a little patience here goes a long way! Now for the fun part: designs! The possibilities are endless. Since I love adding a cute touch to my kitchen, I've been obsessed with making food perler beads. Think tiny watermelons, strawberries, apples, or even a cute little fried egg! They look so charming on the fridge. If you're into gaming, like me, you absolutely have to try Stardew Valley perler bead patterns. Imagine having a little Junimo or your favorite crop pixel art brightening up your day every time you open the fridge. I also love looking up classic 8-bit video game sprites; they translate perfectly into perler art. Don't be afraid to experiment with different color palettes – sometimes a neon pink can make a simple design pop! And remember those colorful DIY perler bead magnets I mentioned? That's where you can really get creative with animals, little stars, hearts, or even miniature versions of your favorite emojis. There are tons of free pixel art resources online if you need inspiration! Once your perler bead creation is cooled and sturdy, turning it into a magnet is super simple. I usually buy small, strong disc magnets from a craft store or online. You just need a good craft adhesive – E6000 or super glue works wonders. Apply a small dot of glue to the back of your perler bead design, press the magnet firmly onto it, and let it cure completely. I usually let mine sit overnight to ensure a strong bond. You can even use flexible magnetic sheets and cut them to size for larger designs. These little creations aren't just for the fridge either; I've seen people turn them into keychains, earrings, or even wall art by framing a collection of them. It's amazing how versatile a simple bead craft can be! It's truly a rewarding hobby that lets you unleash your inner child while creating something genuinely useful and decorative. So grab some perler beads, some parchment paper, and an iron, and start making your own collection of colorful DIY perler bead magnets today!
