... Read moreAfter my amazing visit to Baidu Apollo Park in Shanghai, I just had to share more details about what makes their autonomous driving technology so impressive! You might be curious about the actual vehicles and the tech behind them, right? I certainly was! First off, the Baidu autonomous bus, also known as the APOLONG, is a real showstopper. It's not just a concept; these electric, self-driving shuttles are already being used in various closed parks and even some public roads. Imagine a spacious, comfortable interior where you can relax, chat, or just enjoy the view without a driver! The ride is incredibly smooth, relying on advanced sensors and AI to navigate safely. The seats are plush, and there are screens often showing the route and environmental detection in real-time, which is super cool to watch. It truly feels like stepping into the future of public transport. Then there's the Baidu autonomous taxi, often referred to as Apollo Go. I got to see some of these up close and even experienced a ride! The interior of the autonomous taxi is surprisingly normal yet futuristic. You'll find a clean, modern cabin, but instead of a driver, there's a console with a large screen displaying information about your journey, including the car's real-time perception of its surroundings. It feels incredibly safe, thanks to the array of sensors – cameras, lidar, radar – meticulously placed around the car, constantly monitoring the environment. You can really feel the AI making precise, calculated decisions, proving it's often smoother and more consistent than human driving, especially in complex urban environments. The Baidu Apollo logo is prominently displayed, reminding you of the innovation behind it. Baidu Apollo Park Shanghai itself is more than just a showroom. It's a buzzing hub of innovation. This is where the magic truly happens! I saw various autonomous test vehicles equipped with all sorts of sensors, undergoing rigorous testing. It’s fascinating to witness the R&D process, where engineers are constantly refining the algorithms and hardware. The facility showcases Baidu's full-stack AI capabilities, from AI chips to software architecture. It’s not just about building cars; it's about developing the entire ecosystem. The park emphasizes the Baidu Apollo autonomous driving platform, which is an open-source platform that allows partners to develop their own autonomous solutions. This collaborative approach accelerates the development of self-driving technology globally. Overall, my visit confirmed that Baidu is at the forefront of this technological revolution. The level of sophistication in their autonomous driving platform and the practical application in vehicles like the APOLONG bus and Apollo Go taxis are truly inspiring. If you ever get the chance to visit Apollo Park in Shanghai, jump on it! It's an eye-opening experience that redefines what we think is possible with AI and transportation.
