Here’s some Halloween costumes for inspiration for anyone that wants something a little more niche
1. Swamp mummy/bog body
Super cool internet rabbit hole to go down if you haven’t already but I think this would make a really cool/creepy costume.
2. Victorian skeleton
It’s giving Corpse Bride but I think the skeleton rib cage would be a super fun challenge to make.
3. Circus carousel
This looks so cool. I think the skirt would be so fun to figure out with a skirt cage and some tulle.
4. Retro-futurism astronaut
I think this could be a lot of fun. Just be careful if you decide to go with a space helmet!
5. Floor lamp
You could go an antique style or even do something like the lamp from Christmas Story. The more frills and beads, the better imo.
6. Art nouveau bird
I was inspired by sketches for costumes from old operas and I think something along these lines would be really cool especially if you can get the silhouette right.
7. Roadkill
I feel like we’ve all seen a deer makeup look/costume at some point but I think it’d be extra creepy if it was either shot or run over.
8. Voodoo doll
I saw one of these on Pinterest and I think it’s such a cool idea! All you really need is a simple dress and some red scrap fabric and maybe something to make the massive pin needles
Lmk what you’re dressing up as for Halloween in the comments! Maybe we can inspire each other!

The swamp mummy, inspired by bog body archaeology, is a fascinating blend of eerie and historical elements that can be brought to life through textured makeup and tattered clothing to create a convincing ancient 'undead' look. The Victorian skeleton costume combines gothic elegance with macabre details; constructing a rib cage corset adds a dramatic challenge but also results in an eye-catching centerpiece that merges spooky with stylish, channeling a vibe similar to Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.
The circus carousel idea is truly playful and artistic. Using a skirt cage and tulle to mimic the movement and whimsical structure of carousel horses can make your costume not only unique but also interactive and fun. Retro-futurism astronaut costumes play with nostalgia and imagination by blending vintage space suit aesthetics with futuristic elements—just be careful when selecting or crafting a space helmet to balance comfort and visual impact.
For a more quirky and humorous approach, the floor lamp costume offers creative freedom. Whether you opt for an antique style with frills and beads or a kitschy look inspired by iconic movie lamps, this costume promises to get laughs and admiration. Inspired by Art Nouveau’s flowing lines and nature motifs, the art nouveau bird costume challenges you to capture that distinctive silhouette and delicate feathered details.
If you want something truly creepy, the roadkill costume takes animal makeup to a new level by portraying a deer as if it had a tragic encounter, adding a shocking twist to a commonly seen deer costume. And finally, the voodoo doll costume is striking in its simplicity and ingenuity; a plain dress, some red fabric scraps, and oversized needle props combine for an eerie, handmade feel.
These costume ideas not only push the boundaries of traditional Halloween dressing but also encourage DIY creativity and storytelling. Whether you prefer creepy, quirky, or artistic, these concepts can inspire you to craft a memorable outfit that stands out at any Halloween gathering.
