Humor Heals

It’s been a rough few years on my family. My parents getting a divorce was one of those things we’ve all just expected and have been waiting on for forever. I love both of them. They’ve found a good balance of being mutuals without being together. Which is great.

Their divorce was granted two weeks ago. It’s kinda bitter sweet for me but I did make the joke with both of them that I’d get them a cake.

Here it is folks.

You should of seen when I asked the baker at Whole Foods to write “Happy Divorce”. 😂

The act of joking about serious situations, like preparing a ‘Happy Divorce’ cake, creates a light-hearted atmosphere that helps in emotional healing. Laughter can trigger the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals, which can ease feelings of stress and sadness associated with life changes. This simple act of levity not only helps individuals express their feelings but also opens conversations that can lead to support from friends and family. In recent years, more people are acknowledging humor's role in healing. Many psychologists advocate for incorporating laughter and humor in coping strategies during tough times. This approach not only helps in looking at situations from a different perspective but can also foster resilience. Communities can also benefit from humor; shared laughter can create bonds and foster empathy, relieving feelings of isolation that often accompany life transitions like divorce. As you navigate through your own experiences with divorce or any profound life change, embracing humor might just be the remedy you need. Whether through memes, jokes, or personal stories, allow yourself to find moments of joy and laughter. Reach out within community spaces, share your tales using hashtags like #findinghumor or #lifeisfunny, and discover that you are not alone. Humor can be a healing companion on your path to recovery.
