Hey everyone! I'm so excited you're checking out my Transformers OC art. Creating your own Original Character for the Transformers universe is such a rewarding experience, and I wanted to share a bit about my process and some tips for anyone looking to dive into it! When I started designing 'Orchiteil,' my main goal was to create a character that felt like they truly belonged in the Transformers world, but with their own unique flair. The first step for me is always brainstorming. What kind of alt-mode do they have? Is it a sleek sports car, a powerful jet, or something more unconventional like a construction vehicle? For Orchiteil, I envisioned a specific type of aerial vehicle that allowed for dynamic poses and a sense of speed. Thinking about their faction early on – Autobot, Decepticon, or something neutral – helps shape their personality and backstory immensely. Orchiteil leans towards a more independent, almost rogue, alignment, which makes their design process incredibly fun and opens up unique narrative possibilities. Then comes the visual design! This is where you get to play with shapes, colors, and unique features. I spend a lot of time sketching different robot and alt-mode concepts, trying to make sure the transformation feels logical and cool. For Orchiteil, I focused on sharp angles and a sense of agility, giving them somewhat streamlined limbs and a fierce facial expression. Sometimes I even jot down little internal notes or placeholder names for specific components, like 'Bnckphck Flowen' for a particular weapon system or a unique engine part, just to keep track of ideas as they spark. Don't be afraid to experiment with different aesthetics – perhaps a more G1-inspired look, or something more aligned with the live-action movies, or even a completely original interpretation. What kind of weapons do they wield? Do they have unique abilities? These details make your OC stand out and give them character. Developing a compelling backstory is just as crucial as the design. Where did they come from? What's their personality like? What are their motivations and fears? For my OCs, I love to think about their personal journey – maybe they were a young recruit, a seasoned warrior, or even a civilian caught in the war. Orchiteil has a bit of a mysterious past, which I’m still fleshing out, but it definitely impacts their current demeanor and interactions with other Transformers. I find inspiration everywhere, from existing Transformers lore to other sci-fi stories and even real-world history. One of the biggest challenges can be avoiding designs that feel too derivative. I always try to push myself to find unique elements while still respecting the established Transformers aesthetic. It's a fine line between paying homage and creating something truly new. Don't get discouraged if your first few attempts aren't perfect; art is a journey! Sharing your work, even in progress like mine, helps you get feedback and stay motivated.
