My first card convention at Card Con 2

Finally got to visit my first card convention and it was honestly a fun experience.

I went in with a few cards in mind, but once I got inside, my mind just went blank. Definitely learned my lesson, I’d recommend preparing a list of cards (with prices) beforehand to stay on track.

Didn’t manage to get any cards for my 151 Pokédex collection, but I still picked up some horde cards at pretty good prices, so I’d still call it a win.

... Read moreAttending my first card convention like Card Con 2 was an eye-opening experience that I would highly recommend to any trading card enthusiast. One of the biggest takeaways was how quickly the excitement of the event can make you forget your original plans. Walking in, I had specific cards in mind, but the sheer number of vendors and the bustling crowd overwhelmed me, making it hard to stick to my list. If you're planning to attend a card convention, I suggest preparing a detailed list of target cards along with budgeted prices. This strategy keeps your purchases focused and helps avoid impulse buys or overspending. Also, arriving early can help beat peak crowds, giving you more time to browse and negotiate with vendors calmly. Despite not finding the exact cards for my 151 Pokédex collection, I managed to pick up several horde cards at reasonable prices. This taught me to be flexible—sometimes expanding your collection with new types or editions can be just as rewarding as hunting for specific cards. Another interesting aspect was the social experience. Card Con 2 at Suntec City features many passionate collectors and vendors, and striking up conversations led to valuable tips and trading opportunities. Don't hesitate to engage with fellow attendees; the community is welcoming and can greatly enhance your experience. Lastly, budgeting is crucial. As I jokingly noted from the signage at the event — "Damage of the day: Money were harmed..My money.." — card conventions can be tempting spending traps. Track your expenses closely to enjoy the event without regret. Overall, Card Con 2 was not just about buying cards but also about connecting with a vibrant trading card scene. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a newcomer, proper preparation and an open mind can turn your first convention into a memorable adventure.
