How I plan epic trips

A little behind the scene action for you here! Here is how I plan a trip as a verified Virgo and most importantly a travel agent.

When I plan a trip for myself or a client, I use several different apps to organize like Wanderlog, and Pinterest for inspiration ideas.

I search flights on several different apps, but Momondo is usually the first one I stop at, I also log into my Fora Travel advisor portal and search for the best accommodations that could potentially get myself or my clients extra perks without any additional cost. If for some reason, I don’t find what I’m looking for there then I head over to my Expedia account that is specifically for Travel advisors.

I am able to input all of my itinerary, my bookings (including tours, rental cars, accommodation flights) and the budget into WanderLogs. Then I go through and organize my Pinterest board with images in order of my itinerary so I can get a visual flow. Waterlogs does a mini version of this, but I also like to have my Pinterest version.

Then, if this trip is for a client, I send it off to my client for approval. Thanks for joining me behind the scenes. Let me know if you’d like more behind-the-scenes content of my life as a trip, designer and travel agent and a world schooling Mom.

... Read moreOne key aspect of effective trip planning is balancing flexibility with detailed organization. For instance, while apps like Momondo help find the best flight deals, using platforms tailored to travel advisors such as Fora Travel and Expedia Advisor accounts can unlock extra perks and better accommodations, especially for those planning group trips or family vacations. Visual organization tools like Pinterest complement itinerary apps by providing a creative way to sequence your trip visually. This method not only helps in imagining the journey but also assists clients or fellow travelers in understanding the flow of the itinerary. Including images of places like Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes National Park or Zadar’s Sea Organ can inspire excitement and help prioritize must-see spots. Additionally, keeping budget tracking integrated into your itinerary planning is crucial. Wanderlog allows you to input expenses alongside bookings, offering a clear overview of trip costs to avoid surprises. For family travel or trips with kids, this level of planning also ensures a smoother experience. From experience, sharing the detailed itinerary with clients for approval not only fosters trust but allows for last-minute adjustments tailored to individual preferences. This collaborative approach enhances satisfaction and creates a personalized travel experience. Consider also exploring lesser-known attractions and local tips alongside popular landmarks to enrich your trip. Engaging with travel forums or blogs can provide invaluable insider advice that turns a good trip into an exceptional adventure. In summary, combining professional tools, diligent research, and a visual itinerary workflow creates epic trips that balance excitement, practicality, and personalization — whether for yourself or your clients.
