My trip to Hainan was truly a dream, and one of the absolute highlights was finally visiting the legendary Luhuitou Statue. I'd heard so much about this iconic landmark, often referred to as 'Deer Looking Back,' and standing there, taking in the incredible views, truly exceeded all my expectations! You see, the Luhuitou Statue isn't just a statue; it's steeped in a beautiful, romantic legend that gives the entire area a magical aura. The story goes that a young hunter was chasing a magical deer across nine mountains and ninety-nine rivers. Just as he cornered it by the sea, the deer looked back at him, and with a flash of light, transformed into a beautiful maiden. They fell in love, married, and settled in Hainan, becoming the ancestors of the Li ethnic group. The massive, beautiful statue at the top of the Luhuitou Scenic Area beautifully depicts this moment – the hunter, his dog, and the deer turning into the maiden. It's such a powerful symbol of love and transformation, and knowing the story made gazing at the statue even more meaningful for me. Beyond the captivating legend, the Luhuitou Scenic Area offers so much more. The views from the top, where the Luhuitou Statue proudly stands, are absolutely breathtaking. You get panoramic vistas of Sanya Bay, the city skyline, and the shimmering South China Sea. It’s the perfect spot for photography, especially during sunset when the sky paints itself in vibrant hues. I spent ages just soaking in the scenery, feeling completely at peace. There are also lovely gardens, pavilions, and walking paths around the statue, making it a peaceful escape from the bustling city. It's a fantastic example of the natural beauty you can discover when you travel China. For anyone planning to visit, I have a few tips! Getting to the Luhuitou Scenic Area is quite easy; you can take a taxi or a local bus from Sanya. I recommend going either early in the morning to beat the crowds and heat, or later in the afternoon to catch that stunning sunset. Wear comfortable shoes, as there's a bit of walking involved if you want to explore all the viewpoints. Don't forget your camera – you'll want to capture every angle of that majestic Luhuitou Statue and the incredible scenery! It’s an unforgettable Hainan experience that truly showcases the charm of this tropical island. If you're planning a trip to Hainan, make sure the 'Deer Looking Back' statue is at the top of your list!
