Tangled waves after sleeping? Try this 👀
Yes, I brush my wavy hair DRY! With my fine, loose texture, brushing out the tangles first gives me a smooth starting point for a quick refresh. Hair care isn’t one-size-fits-all, and this is what works for mine!
My quick refresh:
1. Section + gently dry brush
2. Lightly mist with water + leave-in (about a nickel-size amount per 6 oz water)
3. Apply a little foam
Scrunch
4. Diffuse or air dry ✨
The result? Smooth, polished waves without completely re-wetting and restyling my hair.
If your waves get tangled, stretched out or wild overnight, this might be worth trying! 👀

From my experience with fine, wavy hair, refreshing your waves without washing can save you time and prevent over-drying. Dry brushing before applying any product helps detangle without causing breakage—especially when using a specialized detangling brush designed for waves and curls. I always start by dividing my hair into sections to gently ease out knots. Mixing a small amount of leave-in conditioner with water in a spray bottle creates a lightweight mist that revives moisture without weighing down my hair. This approach keeps the natural wave pattern intact. Then, applying a light mousse or foam defines the waves and adds volume, which air drying or diffusing can enhance for a polished look. This routine works great for hair that naturally tends to stretch or frizz overnight, as it restores bounce and smoothness with minimal effort. Tools like claw clips also help when sectioning to avoid disturbing your waves too much during styling. In my journey, embracing a personalized haircare routine rather than a one-size-fits-all method has made a noticeable difference in both the health and appearance of my waves.
