Guang Zhou with 11 month old🐮🐣

I have been wanting to travel with bb for a while🥲

I asked my husband a couple times when bb was younger but due to his work schedule, he couldn’t. I told him I wouldn’t mind travelling alone with bb. Naturally, he was concerned and suggested I asked my mom to accompany me instead. My mother wasn’t free to travel either.

One fine October evening, my husband asked if we would accompany him to GuangZhou for work. If it isn’t obvious enough, I said yes.

We went for a 6 days 5 nights trip in January.

We didn’t bring a stroller so I baby wore her the whole trip. She napped in the baby carrier when we were out and I took her out for every meal and dessert/coffee/milk tea pitstops. I also latched her while she was in the carrier when we were out.

It was pretty warm the whole time we were there. I believe the temperature would be lower at night but our days ended early.

She was on 3 meals a day so I brought her Gerber oats for breakfast and prepared enough instant porridges for her lunch and dinners. I also packed basic medication and a thermometer just in case. One item I packed and didn’t expect to use would be prune juice sachets. Thank goodness I brought it as bb was constipated, fed her half a sachet for a few mornings when we were there and it went back to normal very soon.

I was still pumping twice a day (on top of direct latching), so I brought my portable pumps. I read that I don’t need to sterilise things anymore but I used sterilisation tablets from pigeon to sterilise them every night, for my peace of mind. This is just so I can pump and use my milk for her Gerber oats in the morning. My baby primarily latches so I didn’t need to prepare bottles when we went out. I did bring empty bottles, just in case.

Honestly, we did not really explore much of guangzhou and primarily went to malls. Nonetheless, it was a good trip with a nice change of scenery for me. 🥹

... Read moreTraveling with a baby under one year old can be both exciting and overwhelming. From personal experience, one of the biggest challenges is packing efficiently without missing important baby essentials. I found that relying on a baby carrier rather than a stroller made navigating crowded places like malls and airports much easier, and the baby tended to sleep better when snug against me. Preparing food was another concern, especially ensuring that the baby had familiar meals during the trip. Bringing instant porridge packets and toddler-friendly oats helped simplify feeding times without stressing about finding suitable options on the go. It's also crucial to bring a small health kit including basic medication and a thermometer, as babies can be sensitive to changes in environment and routine. I was surprised at how beneficial having prune juice sachets turned out to be when my baby experienced mild constipation—something I hadn’t anticipated but was thankful to be prepared for. For breastfeeding moms, portable breast pumps and sterilisation tablets offer peace of mind and flexibility, allowing you to pump and store milk for later meals conveniently. Although exploring Guangzhou beyond the malls wasn’t the main focus, the change of scenery was refreshing and a good reminder that even short, simple trips can bring joy and valuable bonding time. If you're considering traveling with your baby for the first time, planning ahead with these practical tips can help reduce stress and make your journey smoother and more enjoyable.
