Cancer does define me

2025/7/31 Edited to

... Read moreCancer is a life-altering diagnosis, but it does not have to define who a person is. Many survivors find that embracing vulnerability becomes a powerful tool for personal growth and healing. Vulnerability allows individuals to express their true feelings, seek support, and connect authentically with others facing similar challenges. This emotional openness fosters resilience and helps rebuild a sense of self beyond the illness. Recognizing that cancer shapes part of your journey, yet does not wholly define your identity, is essential. Many survivors engage in communities and forums for shared experiences, which aid in processing emotions and discovering new purposes. Active participation in such supportive environments reduces isolation and promotes mental well-being. Incorporating reflective practices like journaling or mindful conversations encourages greater self-awareness and emotional acceptance. These practices support long-term adjustment by helping survivors integrate their cancer experience constructively without it overshadowing other facets of life. It’s also important to acknowledge the physical and emotional pain associated with cancer treatment. Addressing symptoms such as typhoid pain or other ailments with appropriate medical care and complementary therapies can enhance quality of life. Ultimately, redefining life after cancer means focusing on growth, connection, and resilience. By embracing vulnerability and sharing stories, survivors contribute to a community that honors courage and authenticity, inspiring others to live fully despite their diagnosis.

cancer DOES define me
I am now 1 1/2 years cancer free, but still have routine doctor appointments and tests. It may feel slower most days than it used to (thank goodness), but the lessons are still there. I used to hear people say, “Don’t let your illness define you.” But the truth is, my cancer does define me… and

Does skin color still define beauty?
You ever get a “compliment” that actually felt like an insult? Someone once told me, "You should try bleaching your skin, it would enhance your features.” The audacity, right? When I first heard that, I was speechless, not because I agreed, but because it reminded me how deep colorism still run

Overlayed on a rocky ground, the image presents questions for personal success definition, such as what the soul craves and when one feels most alive. It suggests success can be stillness, freedom, connection, creating, healing, exploring, or simply being. A Lemon8 logo is present.
Against a blurred background of white blossoms on a tree, the image prompts the viewer to ask: 'What does success feel like in your body, your heart, your soul?' A Lemon8 logo and username are at the bottom left.
