It’s always concerning to underestimate the people you’re trying to undermine, but you also do need a real material analysis of their capacities and they are significantly limited by their actual population#greenscreenvideo
From my own observations and experience researching digital propaganda efforts, it’s clear that the scale and impact of any country’s information operations are closely tied to demographic and resource factors. Israel, despite its relatively small population, has invested heavily—over $730 million, primarily sourced from America—into pro-Israel advocacy and public diplomacy campaigns, often referred to as Hasbara. Their defenders work relentlessly online and on campuses worldwide, demonstrating skilled messaging, social media management, and rapid response techniques. What stands out, however, is the gap between perception and material capacity. While Israel is widely perceived as having vast propaganda power, the actual number of active propagandists is limited by population size. This constraint means the reach and influence per capita are high, but overall manpower is modest compared to larger actors. In addition, the nuanced approach of Israel’s campaign involves utilizing authentic personal stories, digital community engagement, and strategic partnerships to maximize impact disproportionately to their population. Nevertheless, observers must critically evaluate these efforts without underestimating them but also recognizing the natural limitations posed by demographics. An important aspect is how these campaigns often incorporate genuine grassroots support and coordinated online defenders who counter misinformation swiftly. The presence of official state channels, sometimes with noticeable elements like social media watermark errors, reveals both sophisticated and occasionally imperfect executions. Understanding this balance helps to approach propaganda analysis with a grounded perspective, appreciating the skill involved while avoiding assumptions of infinite capacity. As with any information campaign, quality often outweighs quantity, and Israel’s focused investments and passionate advocates illustrate this in practice.
